Legal matters involve sensitive and sometimes uncomfortable issues. You have to know that you can trust your attorney and that the information you provide will not be disclosed to the wrong people and will not be used to your detriment. How can you find out if you can trust the lawyer that you are considering hiring?
First, find out if the lawyer has ever been disciplined. In Illinois, information on attorney licenses can be found through the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission. In Wisconsin, the information can be found through the Wisconsin State Bar. Attorney licenses can be censured, suspended or revoked for such things as neglect of client matters, misuse of client funds or commission of a crime. One should be very hesitant to trust a lawyer who has a history of bad treatment of past clients.
Second, ask your friends, family and business associates for a referral. If they had a good experience with an attorney in the past, you will likely have one as well. If you already know an attorney who does not practice in the area of law in which you need assistance, that attorney will likely refer you to someone they know who can be trusted.
An attorney’s code of ethics requires them to maintain client confidentiality. At The Law Offices of Thaddeus M. Bond, Jr. & Associates, P.C., we will never share your personal information with anyone who could misuse it. We have invested in technology to protect your data and our communications with our clients. Even if we meet with a client who chooses not to hire us, we safeguard their information and do not share it with anyone.
