The Illinois Local Governmental and Governmental Employees Tort Immunity Act exists to protect local government units and public employees from liability for many acts arising from the operation of government. In general, there is no liability for negligent acts or omissions in carrying out the day to day functions of the government. There are exceptions to this rule including for willful or intentional acts, for violations of government contracts and for violations of a municipality’s own ordinances. Every case is unique and must be evaluated on an individual basis. If you believe you have been harmed or wronged by a government employee or official, contact us to discuss your case.
