After barring almost all residential evictions since March, the State of Illinois has finally decided to allow landlords to evict tenants under certain conditions. A tenant must now sign an affidavit stating they are below a certain income level, that the reason they cannot pay rent is because of loss of income caused by the pandemic and that eviction would likely cause them to become homeless. If the tenant does not sign such an affidavit, the landlord can start eviction proceedings through the courts. This will stop those tenants who abused the moratorium for personal gain.
