The role of God in our government

I recently had a discussion with another lawyer about the role of God in government. The conversation arose over the possible filing of a lawsuit to remove a display of the Ten Commandments from a municipal building. This issue reached our area after other jurisdictions have insisted on removal of such displays. I for one think the display should be left alone. The Ten Commandments do not support the establishment of any particular religion in violation of our Constitution. If our government officials aren’t expected to follow its basic tenets of decency and morality, who is? The fact is that this country was founded on the recognition of certain rights granted to us by a higher being. No matter what faith one practices, the existence of a God and the blessings he has bestowed upon all of us cannot be denied.
